Lady Owls Split the Weekend 1-1

The Lady Owls opened up EMAC conference play with a heartbreaking loss  60-62 to The Apprentice School. The Lady Builders came out shooting in the first quarter to take a 22-17 lead. Cold shooting in the second quarter allowed the Owls to take the momentum of the game and take a 32-26 lead at the break. After a tightly contested third quarter, the Lady Builders came back from a 16 point deficit in the fourth quarter when an Aquazia Jones three-pointer gave the Lady Builders a 60-59 lead with 2:38 remaining in the game. After an Owls' free throw knotted the game at 60 apiece with 1:29 remaining, both teams had opportunities to take the lead. After a missed three-pointer with 25 seconds left in the game, the Owls advanced the ball and called a time out. Coming out the time out, the Lady Builders pressured the Owls defensively and allowed Aquazia Jones to force a turnover at midcourt and hustled to convert the game-winning layup as time expired.  The Owls were led by Kalie Mayo who has 24 points. Sam Hoyle had a game-high 14 rebounds and 4 assists. "We had great moments tonight but no counter for the Builders punch. We should of never let it come down to a last-second possession. Carrigan Causby had some really strong minutes for us tonight and that is very promising moving forward," said Coach Davis on the game. 

On a quick turnaround, the Lady Owls found themselves on top this time with an 84-80 win over Regent. The Owls trailed most of the game but found a way to pull within 3 in the last minute of the game and then Sam Hoyle hit a 3 pointer under 5 seconds to force overtime. The Owls would outscore Regent 7-3 In overtime to seal the win. Asia Caldwell led the Owls with 24 and she was followed by Malaka Elix who had 20. Also reaching double digits was Kalie Mayo with 11 and Kj Mckoy with 10.  The Owls forced 17 turnovers on 13 steals, including a key steal by Bryanna Foster in overtime.
