Mission & Commitments
The Mission of Warren Wilson College’s Intramurals program is to serve WWC students, faculty and staff by providing an opportunity for a quality competitive and/or social outlet while maintaining a fun and safe environment. Our student-led program strives for excellence by emphasizing the values of good sportsmanship, integrity, and cooperation and aims to create a diverse experience that all participants want to return to year after year.
Our Commitment is to achieve the following goals:
- Listening and communicating with patrons and participants
- Soliciting feedback from patron and participant and following through with any inquires
- Engaging in a team environment to accomplish goals and achieve success
- Purchasing and maintaining quality and reliable equipment
- Stewardship of our on-campus facilities
- Managing all services and aspects of creating opportunities to advance and grow Intramurals offerings
- Providing a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants
Statement of Inclusion
Warren Wilson College is committed to providing inclusive programming throughout the Athletics and Adventure Sports Department. Particularly, Warren Wilson College’s Intramurals program welcomes all students, faculty, staff, and extended campus family members that make up our diverse community. We support all participants competing in sports leagues and events based on their expressed gender identity, fully recognize that any given individual’s gender may not align with their assigned sex and may change throughout their life and college career. We are committed to respecting the gender identity for every single individual participating in Intramurals programming at Warren Wilson College.
Warren Wilson College strives to formulate inclusive and non-discriminatory campus services. Our Intramurals program is committed to providing a welcoming, user-friendly experience to all members of our campus community. We are committed to the full inclusion of transgender and non-binary populations. All participants in Intramurals will be supported based on their expressed gender identity.
Participation, Policies, And Procedures
- Current students, faculty, and staff in good standing are eligible to participate in Intramurals programming. Including spouses and alumni if approved.
- Participants are responsible to learn and abide by the eligibility & playing rules for each sport they play in.
- Players who exhibit poor behavior may be suspended from participation pending the outcome of meeting with the Director of Intramurals. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive or violent contact, verbal abuse of players or officials, fighting, multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties, cheating, playing as an ineligible player or destructive actions toward equipment, facility, staff or players.
- A player suspension applies to all intramural sports during the suspension.
- Players are subject to facility policies such as dress code, ID requirement, and conduct.
- Captains are responsible for sharing information from Captains Meetings and emails with members of the team.
Formats of Programming
- Regular Season/League Play: this format will consist of either a three-week or five-week regular season, followed by a single-elimination playoff bracket.
- Week-Long Tournament: these events will be played over one week and may be single-elimination, double-elimination, or a round-robin followed by a single-elimination format.
- One-Day Tournament: these events will begin and complete in one day (typically played on the weekend; either on or off campus) and may be single-elimination or double-elimination format.
- Walk-Up: these events will not require any prior registration and are open for participants who show up and would like to play. These events are typically more recreational.
