Owls Survive Hiwassee Comeback Attempt

Asheville, NC - The Warren Wilson men's basketball team survived a furious second half comeback to defeat Hiwassee College 73-69 on Friday night.

Hiwassee opened the game with nine straight points to take an early lead. Warren Wilson responded behind three first half three-point field goals from Raysean Love to retake the advantage. The Owls finished the half strong shooting 58% to lead 42-30 at the break.

Hiwassee responded in the second half cutting the lead to two in the final minute. After a defensive stop, Timur Oktay sank two free throws with five seconds remaining to secure the four point victory.

Warren Wilson placed five players in double figures led by Justin Gonyea's 13 points. Dan Jackson and Anthony Barringer both added 12, and Love and Oktay scored 11 and 10 respectively. The Owls totaled 17 assists on 24 made field goals and shot 18 of 22 from the free throw line.

The men's basketball team goes for its fourth straight win at home on Monday against NAIA Virginia Intermont at 7:00 pm.
