SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Warren Wilson College men's basketball team wraps up their season with a determined effort, showcasing their strengths and battling through challenges. The Owls demonstrated resilience and growth throughout the year.
The Owls concluded the season with a 2-23 record, averaging 74.1 points per game. Their field goal percentage stood at 42.3% (670-1584), while their three-point shooting was 29.9% (210-703).
Additionally, their free throw percentage is an area of emphasis for improvement next season, as they converted 66.2% (302-456) from the line. They distributed the ball well with 291 assists, averaging 11.6 assists per game.
Warren Wilson showed grit on the defensive end with 172 steals, averaging 6.9 steals per game. They also managed 69 total blocks, contributing 2.8 blocks per game. The Owls pulled down 869 total rebounds, averaging 34.8 rebounds per game.
One of the key struggles this season was the turnover battle, as the Owls allowed opponents to capitalize on mistakes. The Owls committed 449 turnovers, averaging 18.0 per game, allowing their opponents to score 22.2 points per game off of them.
Despite the challenges, Warren Wilson showed promise in multiple areas, including ball movement and defensive hustle. With continued development and focus on efficiency, the Owls have a strong foundation to build upon for the next season. The Owls will undoubtedly use this season's experience as a stepping stone for future success.
Season Leaders:
Peyton Gonzales led the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game, putting up 44.5% from the field and 25.7% from beyond the arc. He was dominant on the boards, leading the Owls with 6.4 rebounds per game. Peyton showcased his play making ability, averaging a team-high 3.1 assists per game. He was also the most disruptive defender on the perimeter, averaging 1.2 steals per game, the best mark on the team.
Slim Hines was the most efficient scorer, shooting 47.1% from the field and 32.5% from beyond the arc. Hines averaged 11.2 points per game while contributing 3.0 rebounds per game. He struggled in other statistics by only converting 0.9 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game.
Lazzaro Ford was consistent from the three-point range, hitting 31.8% from beyond the arc. Ford averaged 10.8 points per game along with 0.6 assists, and 0.4 steals per game. He helped out the owls by bringing down 3.0 rebounds per game.
