Elizabeth City, N.C. - The #9 men's basketball team traveled to Mid-Atlantic Christian University for their first of three games in three days, in a USCAA D-2 battle. The Owls started the game struggling to find their rhythm early, but their defense allowed them to stay in the game, although the Mustangs shot the ball at a high level, and take a 37-36 halftime lead; their second lead going into the half all season. The second half the Owls found their rhythm and forced more turnovers, which led to layups and kick out three pointers en route to an 89-71 victory for the Owls. In the midst of that run the Owls were re-energized when senior guard Steven Horton Jr. found fellow senior Sean Gribble with a sweet behind the back pass, which led to Gribble posterizing his defender.
The Owls were again led by Junior guard Michael Pomeroy, who is having a career year, with 18 points. Fellow junior Merault Almonor finished with 14 points in his first start for the Owls. Marques Sullivan sparked the Owls off the bench with 3 consecutive three pointers, finishing with 12 points.
"We have struggled to find chemistry and energy this year, which is uncharacteristic for a Warren Wilson team, so I shook some things up in the starting lineup and the guys responded well," stated head coach Anthony Barringer.
The Owls will travel to Newport News, VA to take on #15 USCAA D-1 opponent, The Apprentice School. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
