Charlotte, NC - The Warren Wilson Owls men's basketball team traveled to Charlotte, NC to compete in the Johnson & Wales USCAA Classic Friday and Saturday.
The Owls lost in a close game to Berkeley New Jersey on Friday evening and got the win on Saturday afternoon verses Berkeley New York bringing the Owls overall record to 1-1 on the season.
The team lost the first game against Berkeley (NJ) 69-61. Justin Gonyea led the team in scoring with 18 points shooting 50% from the field. Rashad Ali was close behind almost reaching a double-double as he scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Tyler Triplett was also close to a double-double leading the way in rebounds with 10 and scoring 7 points.
The Saturday game featured the fighting Owls against the other Berkeley campus, Berkeley New York. This game ended in the Owls favor as they controlled the tempo and played their game winning 72-63.
Timmy Johnson led the way for the Owls with 15 points and was very effective getting to the free throw line. Thomas Hay brought great energy off the bench going 5-6 from the field scoring 13 points. Ty Johnson added a solid 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Rashad Ali led the way on the glass with 7 rebounds and 6 points. Justin Gonyea had a balanced game with 6 boards, 7 points, and 4 assists.
The Owls look to begin a winning streak with their first home game on Monday, November 4th at 7:00 pm, when they take on the Barber Scotia Bears.
