SWANNANOA, N.C. — The Warren Wilson College Womxn's Rugby team opened their 2025 season on Saturday, September 6, with a home doubleheader against Guilford College at the Hank Steinbrecher Sports Complex. The Owls battled through two competitive matches, falling in the opener before bouncing back in the afternoon to secure their first win of the season.
Game 1: Guilford 20, Warren Wilson 5
In the season's opening contest, Guilford jumped ahead early and kept up a steady attack to earn a 20–5 victory. The Owls fought hard to stay in the match, and Hannah Johnson powered through the defense for Warren Wilson's lone try, putting the hosts on the scoreboard.
Game 2: Warren Wilson 12, Guilford 10
The Owls regrouped for the second match and delivered a gutsy performance, edging Guilford 12–10 in front of the home crowd. First-year standout Maria Poulos provided the offensive spark, scoring two tries to give Warren Wilson the lead. Johnson added the decisive conversion that ultimately stood as the difference, sealing the team's first win of the season.
