Owls Host Newberry for Home Opener

Swannanoa, NC - The Owls started off the season with a big win against Newberry College in their first of three games Sunday! Hannah Johnson scored the first try of the day in the first half, leading Newberry 5-0. To start off the second half, Moosie Lewis scored a breakaway try followed by a conversion kick from Hannah Johnson. Thus, leading Newberry 12-0. Newberry started to come back with two tries of their own, however, missing both conversion kicks. The Owls were able to hold Newberry for the rest of the game resulting in a 12-10 finish. 

Second game of the day, the Owls, again, started off strong with a try scored by Captain Ella Knecht. Newberry answered back with three tries of their own and one conversion ending the game with a 17-5 loss for the Owls. 

Moosie Lewis, again, started the Owls off strong in the final match of the day with a try followed by another made conversion kick for Hannah Johnson. Moosie Lewis scored again in the last two minutes of the first half making the score 12-0 going into halftime. Newberry started the second half with a bang scoring three tries in a row with two made conversion kicks making the score 19-12. The Owls fought hard resulting a last second try from Ella Knecht, however, with a missed conversion attempt the final score was 19-17 with Newberry keeping the lead. 

The Owls will host Queens University in their first ever 15's match at 1PM Saturday, September 7th!
