GREENSBORO, NC - This past weekend, the Warren Wilson women's rugby team traveled to Greensboro, NC, to compete in the Elite Rugby 7's tournament hosted by Guilford College. The Owls kicked off the day with a dominant performance, securing a 32-0 victory over Elon University. Captain Ella Knecht led the charge with three tries and a conversion kick, while Maria Poulos added two tries of her own. Freshman Nayla Al-Mussawir also made her mark, scoring her first career try to cap off the win.

In their second match of pool play, the Owls faced off against Guilford College, resulting in a hard-fought 17-17 draw. Poulos continued her stellar form, scoring two more tries, while Knecht added one try and converted a crucial kick.

After finishing second in Pool A, the Owls advanced to the semi-final round, where they faced Emory & Henry College. Warren Wilson jumped out to an early 12-0 lead with tries from Poulos and Knecht, along with a successful conversion by Knecht. Emory & Henry responded with two tries and a conversion, leveling the score at 12-12. Poulos added another try to push the Owls ahead, but Emory & Henry quickly answered back. With the game tied 17-17 at the end of regulation, the contest went into sudden death, where Emory & Henry managed to break through for the final try, ending the Owls' run.

Warren Wilson finished fourth overall in the tournament with a 1-1-1 record. The team will return to action on September 22nd for a 12's match on the road against Emory & Henry College.
