TALLULAH FALLS, Ga.- After missing the majority of their season in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the Owls traveled to Georgia to take on in-conference Independent South foe Piedmont University in their season opener.
The Blue and Green competed with a depleted roster due to illness on the team. Freshman Maureen Tyne led the way with a second place finish in the 100 backstroke while adding points in the 100 individual medley and contributing to both A relays.
Junior Tato Harvey was the lone competitor on the men's side competing in the 100 freestyle and 100 individual medley. Despite an abbreviated training season, Harvey's times in both events rank among his best in-season swims in his career.
"This year has obviously been one of upheaval. We've only been able to train in starts and fits Despite this, and perhaps because of it, the team has really come together on a different level," commented head coach Rebecca Westfall. "It's taken so much for us to get to our first meet and we're celebrating every single opportunity to swim. Each race is a triumph. To say I'm proud is an understatement."
The Owls return to action Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 PM against Piedmont University and DII opponent Mars Hill University. The Blue and Green will be celebrating Senior Day highlighting Becca Boynton, Habiba Ghalab and William Hove.
