Men's Swimming

The Owls Split with Mars Hill and Salem College

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Owls entered their last week of competition before their conference championships dropping decisions to local DII foe Mars Hill, but topped Salem College on the women's side.

Consistency was the name of the game for both the men's and women's squads. Despite hard training in December and January, the majority of swimmers are maintaining their unrested, in-season bests.

Junior Lucy Crayton continues to be a standout on the women's side while freshman Rylan Harvey is anchoring the men's team success. Freshman Sydney Webber had herself a day with in-season best times in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle while newcomer and junior Jacob Allen posted season bests in the 50 freestyle.

"To be going season bests in January is a huge accomplishment," said head coach Rebecca Westfall. "They are training towards the top limit of their capacities. Despite that, their energy and excitement for the process and the success of their teammates has been wonderful to watch."

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Freshman Trace Howard is chasing the 30 second barrier in the 50 freestyle. Showing consistent improvement through the season, Howard touched the wall in 30.00 this weekend.

  • Fellow freshman Elizabeth Gembczynski has shown consistent improvement as well posting unrested bests in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

This meet concludes the dual meet season for the men's squad. The women will finish their dual meet season tomorrow, January 28th, when they travel to Pfeiffer at 2:00 PM.
