Men’s Swim Flies Away With Win Over Greensboro

Arden, N.C. - The men's swimming team put together a well balanced attack and came away with a 90.5 to 55.5 win over the Greensboro College Pride. The women fell 102.5 to 58.5 to a vastly improved GC squad. Both teams dropped their decisions to conference champion Piedmont University.

The freshmen lead the way for the Blue and Green with Phineas Kasten contributing two individual and two relay wins for the men while Elena Wheeler continued to shine for the women with two individual and one relay wins.

Kasten (Harrisonburg, Va.) led off the men's 200 medley relay in a time 29.04, won the 100 backstroke in 1:01.17, the 200 backstroke in 2:15.72 and led off the 200 freestyle relay in 25.38. Kasten's time in the 200 backstroke was his second fastest time ever.

Wheeler (Salida, Colo.) continued to improve in the breaststroke events, posting lifetime events of 1:26.59 and 3:08.91 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Her time in the 100 breaststroke was more than four seconds faster than her previous best. She also split 39.27 in the medley relay and led off the 200 freestyle relay in 34.72.

"The majority of the team swam new events this weekend, testing their ability to adapt under increasingly heavy training," said head coach Rebecca Westfall. "It was great to see them learn from previous experience and be able to apply their knowledge in different circumstances. I'm excited to continue to build and watch them progress!"
