Warren Wilson Announces Angelica Rodriguez as First-Ever Varsity Women’s Rugby Coach

Warren Wilson Athletics is proud to announce Angelica Rodriguez as the first-ever full-time Varsity Women's Rugby Head Coach.  She begins her first season after concluding her athletic career as a backline standout at Queens University of Charlotte, while simultaneously working to build her professional coaching resume.

Angelica was instrumental as a player-coach in developing teammates throughout Queens successful campaign to earn a NIRA Division II National Championship.  While managing injury recovery, she supported the team by coaching the sub-varsity program towards successful competition at Tropical 7s, Queens Cup, and several other prominent events.   She holds World Rugby Level 1 coaching and referee certifications, and has served in a variety of professional capacities while hosting various national and regional rugby events.

Her ties to community development also run deep as she was instrumental in the development of programming with various youth organizations including coaching with Girls Rugby Inc. in Charlotte, NC, and volunteering with OurBridge to share a love for rugby with immigrant and refugee children.

As a student-athlete, Angelica completed her career as a NIRA National Champion with Queens University of Charlotte. She was a stand out high school rugby player competing for the Warsaw High school club located in her hometown of Warsaw, Indiana, and also played for several competitive 7s sides over the years.  She concluded her time at Queens by earning a degree in sport and exercise science, while serving as a strength & conditioning intern, and coaching her fellow student-athletes.

After moving from the Midwest to the Southeast to compete as a varsity rugby student-athlete, upon graduation she enthusiastically relocated to the Asheville area to take on the head coach role with the newest NCAA rugby program in the country at WWC, cementing her place in the history books of Owl athletics.

"I'm thrilled to take on the role of head coach for Warren Wilson Rugby, and even more excited to learn about how much the team and campus community has embraced the sport already.  I'm humbled and grateful for the chance to coach at the NCAA Varsity level, and look forward to creating opportunities for many others like it was offered to me as a student-athlete."  said Coach Rodrigiuez.
