Newberry, S.C. - "It was a tale of two halves for us" stated Owls interim head coach Anthony Barringer.
The Owls traveled to Newberry, SC to take on the NCAA DII Newberry Wolves. The Owls used a first half surge to take a 41-24 lead into the half. The Wolves pressure didnt seem to phase the Owls as they were able to find seams in the defense and knock down open shots.
The second half was not so positive for the Owls as they saw a 17 point lead become a 2 point deficit with 12:35 left in the game. Turnovers were their achilles heel (28 for the game, 19 in the second half) for the Owls. Newberry got the lead up to 5 before the Owls surged back and took another lead but was unable to sustain it late in the game.
Timmy Johnson led the Owls with 20 points, shooting 5-10 from the 3 point stripe. Devin Davis and Kenrick Nesbit led the Owls in rebounding with 6.
The Owls have three games this week as they host another NCAA Division 2 opponent, Mars Hill University, on Tuesday December 1st. They then travel to Cullowhee, NC to take on NCAA Division 1 opponent Western Carolina University on Thursday, December 3rd, and then they return home to host Bob Jones University on Saturday, December 5th.
