SWANNANOA, N.C. — The Warren Wilson College women's soccer team enters the 2025 season with renewed energy and determination under Head Coach Maxi Viera, who now guides both the men's and women's programs.
The Owls will be led by a strong group of seniors whose experience and leadership provide a solid foundation on and off the field. Sabine Costello-Sanders (Bar Harbor, ME) anchors the back line with poise and toughness, while goalkeeper Callie Aerni (Marshall, NC) brings reliability and leadership in net. Midfielder Alex Valenzuela (Austin, TX) offers stability and creativity in the center of the pitch, joined by defenders Eden Gfeller (Rural Hill, NC) and Abby Kopp (Raleigh, NC), who bolster the team's defensive depth and organization.
Complementing the senior leadership is a promising group of newcomers, with a large freshman class adding depth and fresh energy across all positions. This blend of experience and youth provides the Owls with balance and versatility heading into the season.
"Our seniors set the tone with their competitiveness and leadership, and our newcomers have already raised the level in training," said Coach Viera. "This mix of veteran presence and young talent makes us confident that 2025 can be a special year for Warren Wilson women's soccer."
