It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the appointment of Maximiliano Viera as the new head coach for the women's soccer team at Warren Wilson College. Hailing from Montevideo, Uruguay, Coach Viera pursued an impressive educational path as a former student-athlete in the United States, where he pursued a degree in Business Management, complemented by a minor in Spanish at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio and Montreat College in North Carolina, complemented by a minor in Spanish. His qualifications are further enhanced by a range of certifications, including a USSF D License, and completion of the esteemed Real Madrid Foundation Training Program.Â
Maximiliano's coaching career commenced at FSA FC in Farmington, Connecticut, where he served as an Assistant Manager and Soccer Coach, focusing on technical program development and the management of various youth teams. He then advanced to the role of Assistant Director of Coaching at Western United Pioneers in Ludlow, Massachusetts, where he played a pivotal role in the growth of both boys' and girls' teams. His tenure as the Varsity Girls Soccer Head Coach at Ludlow High School was marked by remarkable success, culminating in an undefeated championship season. Â
In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Maximiliano boasts a noteworthy professional playing career, having represented several clubs, including the Western Mass Pioneers and Western Mass Professional Soccer Club in the United States, as well as Liverpool CDS and Central Español in Uruguay. His collegiate achievements are equally impressive; at Montreat College, he was honored as Freshman of the Year and earned 1st Team All-Conference accolades, while his sophomore year saw him recognized as the Offensive Player of the Year and Conference Champion. At the University of Rio Grande, he continued to excel, receiving 1st Team All-Conference honors, leading his team to a Regular Season Championship, and achieving the #1 National Rank during his junior year. As a senior, he served as team captain, earning All-American status and contributing to another Conference Championship.Â
Maximiliano's coaching philosophy is centered on player development, teamwork, and resilience, and he is committed to cultivating a positive and competitive atmosphere at Warren Wilson College moving forward. Â
