ANNISTON, AL - The last weekend of the SECCC racing calendar was a big one. The team loaded up the van and headed out earlier than normal on Friday to brace for the 6 hour drive to Anniston, AL. Taking windy back roads to avoid rush hour traffic through Atlanta the team had plenty of time to strategize for the upcoming racing. Saturday was the main event, a fully closed off, televised and professional criterium race in the heart of downtown Anniston. The four turn course had a good bit of elevation (for a crit course) and similar to the previous weekend caused fields to splinter. Some smart racing and staying upright on two wheels saw some great results from the WWC riders. The team stayed throughout the day to enjoy the accompanying street fair festivities and watch the large pro-field races. The final race of the day had over 100 participants.
Sunday brought about the road race. A 13 mile loop of rolling hills and a brutally bumpy chip seal pavement section up to the finish line. The team rode strong and smart. Taking necessary risks when needed and conserving energy in other areas. At the end of the day after all the conference points had been tallied up
Liselot Voordouw snagged 1st place in the Women's C category overall. Consistency pays off and a great cap to the end of her first year racing. Now the team will rest and with no one traveling to nationals to represent the team the students will hunker down to complete their finals and finish out their work contracts. Another great semester of racing bikes in the books!
