On Saturday, the Owls competed in their second race of the season at the Converse Kick-off in Spartanburg, SC. The men's and women's teams ran well finishing 15 th in both races, surrounded by many NCAA ranked Division II and Division III teams.
The women ran well as a pack as the scoring 5 finished within 27 seconds of each other. Leading the team for most of the race, senior
Kayla Schwartz ran a personal best at the 6k distance of 32:43 to finish 2nd for the team. Freshman teammate Rah Juhlin finished first for the team, just a little over a second ahead in 32:41. Rounding out the women's performances were seniors
Val Dorries and
Tabitha McBrayer (33:03 and 33:08 respectively), and freshmen Ella Tatro and
Marlise Pedisich (33:08 and 33:54 respectively).
The men were led by
Henry Berta who finished the 8k rolling hills course in 29:44 – nearly 4 minutes faster than he ran on this course a year ago! Freshmen
Evan Aronson and Zack Schaumburg were next in 33:03 and 33:56. Senior teammate, but first year runner,
Will Cox was fourth for the team in 36:10.
Sam Kobylarz was fifth and the final scorer in 40:16.
