OWLS DEFEAT CROWN COLLEGE 7-1 ON THE ROAD

Box Score

The Warren Wilson College Men's soccer team traveled to The Crown College in Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon.  The match saw the owls produce seven goals.

The owls started hot by getting in behind The Crown College's backline several times.  The first chance of the game was created when Will Feehan got in behind close to half field and dribbled towards the opponents' 18-yard box.  He would find himself one on one with the Goalkeeper in an attempt to flick it over the keeper but saw his attempt go wide. Feehan did not stay down for long as he quickly got another chance and slotted it past the goalkeeper.

Will Feehan would score a second goal off of a set-piece, where the owls played the ball short.  Feehan was given space from distance and took a chance at his luck. The ball deflected off of a Crown College defender and into the back of the net.

Freshman Isaiah Brooks found the back of the net later in the half when he found himself one on one with a Crown defender.  He beat the Crown player and hit a shot from distance that powered its way through the Crown Goalkeeper putting the owls up 3-0.

The last goal of the first half came from Ethan Vanderbleek.  Vanderbleek found himself in a foot race with a Crown defender and came out on top.  He was then in on goal with the goalkeeper and found the corner of the net to put the owls up 4-0 going into the half.

The owls never looked back.  Freshman Paddington Mbumbgwa found himself beating a defender one on one at the top of the box and found himself smashing the ball into the lower-left corner of the net, off the post, and in the goal.  It was his second of the season.

Will Feehan would find himself adding an assist to his season stats when he received a ball played into the wide channel.  He beat a Crown defender and served a beautiful ball into the box to find freshman Iman Amini on the back post, who hit it first time into the net.

The final owl goal came from Brooks again as he took a shot from distance to find the back of the net.

The Crown College pulled a goal back late in the game off of a penalty kick.  Freshman Gus Lehrman was defending the ball when a hard shot from close distance hit his hand that was located next to his body.  The decision was given and put The Crown College on the scoreboard.

"This is the response you want after dropping two games on the road.  We played four games in seven days and suffered a lot of injuries. Also, this was our last away game in a long stretch of away matches.  The players stayed true to playing hard for each other and did not let two defeats keep them down. I am proud of them and am eager to see how we come together as we get more players back and deepen our bench," said Coach Scachetti.

The owls are back in action this Saturday for a doubleheader with the women's team at home where they play Toccoa Falls at 3 PM.
