SWANNANOA, N.C. — After the 2024 season was cut short by the devastation of Hurricane Helene, the Warren Wilson College men's soccer team is eager to return to the pitch with renewed focus and resilience. The Owls enter 2025 under the guidance of Head Coach Maximiliano Viera, who now leads both the men's and women's programs, assisted by Agustin Contreras and Max Segovia.
Leadership Core
Warren Wilson will be anchored by a trio of senior leaders who form the foundation of the squad. John Rhoden (Spartanburg, SC) brings veteran experience and consistency, Benjamin Soto (Newton, NC) provides control and composure in the middle of the field, and Adolfo Castrejon (Wingate, NC) returns as a proven attacking threat. Together, these veterans provide the stability and leadership needed as the Owls look to bounce back from last year's challenges.
Depth and Fresh Faces
Alongside its senior leaders, Warren Wilson returns a strong core of contributors across the field, many of whom gained valuable minutes in recent seasons and are ready to take on bigger roles. The Owls also welcome a versatile freshman class that adds depth in multiple positions and will push for immediate playing time, giving the roster a healthy mix of experience and new energy.
Season Outlook
The Owls open their campaign with an exhibition match against Asheville Football Club on August 22 before traveling to Virginia Military Institute (Aug. 26) and Huntingdon College (Aug. 29) for early non-conference tests. Home highlights at the Hank Steinbrecher Sports Complex include matchups with Centre College (Sept. 14), Methodist University (Sept. 21), Greensboro College (Oct. 4), and Brevard College (Oct. 8). In Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference play, Warren Wilson hosts Johnson & Wales (N.C.) on September 24 and closes the regular season against Regent University on November 2.
