LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA - The Warren Wilson College Women's Basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell 84-44 to Welch College in the Mountaintop Madness Tournament in Lookout Mountain, GA. Welch's strong start put the Owls behind early, with a 23-5 lead in the first quarter that set the tone for the game.
Ellie Martin led Warren Wilson's scoring with 10 points and added 2 rebounds, while
Weronika Swojak contributed 7 points and grabbed a team-high 8 boards.
Welch dominated inside, racking up 46 points in the paint and 52 total rebounds compared to Warren Wilson's 34, showcasing their ability to control the boards and second-chance opportunities. Welch's Karilyn Wieting was a standout, finishing with a game-high 24 points and 18 rebounds, while Lindsey Wright added 23 points of her own.
Despite Welch's defensive intensity, Warren Wilson showed resilience, with highlights from Moosie Lewis (6 points) and Jordan McGhee (6 points) as they pushed to close the gap throughout the game. The Owls also forced several turnovers and grabbed 12 steals, but Welch's overall efficiency and 25 points off turnovers proved difficult to overcome.
