LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA - Warren Wilson College Women's Basketball team opened their season with a challenging matchup against Covenant College, ultimately falling 87-69 in the first game of the Mountaintop Madness Tournament. The Owls started strong, taking an 18-10 lead in the first quarter, but Covenant responded with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Warren Wilson 26-16. The third quarter was pivotal, as Covenant surged with a 33-point performance that created a gap the Owls couldn't close.
Moosie Lewis led the charge for Warren Wilson, scoring 22 points with two three-pointers and a strong 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Jordan McGhee contributed 8 points, while Weronika Swojak added 9 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, including key offensive boards.
Despite a final push in the fourth quarter, where they scored 26 points, Warren Wilson couldn't overcome Covenant's efficiency from beyond the arc (50% on threes) and ability to convert turnovers into 29 points. Covenant's balanced attack, led by Breezy Savage's 20 points and Ora Hall's 18 off the bench, kept the pressure on throughout.
The Owls will look to regroup and build on their performance as they prepare for the next tournament game against Welch College.
