Owls Show Resilience but Fall to Meredith Avenging Angels

RALEIGH, NC — The Warren Wilson College women's basketball team fought hard on Saturday but ultimately fell 70-51 to the Meredith College Avenging Angels at Weatherspoon Gymnasium. The Owls showcased their determination in the second half, scoring 33 points, but couldn't overcome an early deficit.

Meredith started strong, building a 25-8 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control through the second. The Owls found their rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring the Avenging Angels 21-18, but the gap proved too wide to close.

Key Performances:

  • Moosie Lewis led the Owls with a stellar performance, scoring 17 points, including three three-pointers, while adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals in 32 minutes.
  • Ellie Martin contributed 10 points, hitting a three-pointer and going 5-for-10 from the free-throw line, along with 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
  • Weronika Swojak was dominant on the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring 10 points, her first double-double of the season.

Meredith's offense was powered by Pamela Mock, who led all scorers with 20 points and added 7 rebounds. Rylie Wade was a force inside, scoring 17 points and pulling down an impressive 19 rebounds, while Paris Bethea added 18 points, including three three-pointers.

The Owls struggled from the field, shooting 24.7% overall and 22.2% from beyond the arc. However, their aggressive play on the boards kept them competitive, as they secured 37 rebounds, including 16 on the offensive end, resulting in 18 second-chance points.

Coach's Comments:

"We made great strides in the second half, but we need to start stronger to give ourselves a better chance," said Coach Robin Martin-Davis. "Moosie onika stepped up today, and I'm proud of the team's effort."
