Owls Show Heart in Narrow Loss to Johnson & Wales Charlotte

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The Warren Wilson Owls women's basketball team displayed resilience and grit in a closely contested game against Johnson & Wales Charlotte on Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 59-53 at Everett Gymnasium.

The Owls started strong, leading after the first quarter 10-7 thanks to solid defense and a quick start from Moosie Lewis, who finished the game with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds. However, the Wildcats edged ahead in the second half with a decisive fourth-quarter surge, outscoring Warren Wilson 27-18.

Jordan McGhee contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Ellie Martin showcased her defensive tenacity with six steals and eight points. Despite the loss, the Owls' fourth-quarter scoring outburst highlighted their potential to compete at a high level, scoring on 53.85% of their field goals during the period.

"Today showed our team's heart," said Coach Martin-Davis. "We're building something special here, and games like these, where we fight until the end, will help us grow stronger."

This was a game of momentum shifts, with the score tied eight times and the lead changing on eight occasions. Despite shooting struggles in the first half, the Owls closed the gap in the second half with fast-break points and defensive pressure, turning 18 opponent turnovers into 26 points.

The team continues its search for a first win of the season (0-5), but with performances like these, the future looks bright for the Owls. Upcoming games promise more opportunities for the team to showcase their growing chemistry and skills.

The Owls return to action on Saturday against Sewanee, eager to notch their first win of the season.
