GREENSBORO, N.C. – Warren Wilson College women's soccer was unable to overcome a five-goal first half as Greensboro College handed the Owls a 6-0 setback Sunday afternoon at Pride Field.
The loss drops Warren Wilson to 0-1-1 on the season, while Greensboro improves to 1-0-1.
The Owls generated the game's first opportunity when Verena Pate sent a shot high in the sixth minute. Greensboro answered shortly thereafter, taking a 1-0 lead on Isabella Kelly's goal in the eighth minute.
Abby Lush doubled the Pride advantage in the 13th minute before Maci Link made it 3-0 in the 22nd. Lush struck again in the 33rd minute, and Abigail Sanzotta closed out the first-half scoring in the 41st to give Greensboro a 5-0 advantage at the break.
Warren Wilson's defense faced continued pressure in the second half but limited Greensboro to one additional goal despite the Pride recording 16 shots over the final 45 minutes. Lush completed her hat trick in the 60th minute for the game's final goal.
Nassi Robinson provided a bright spot for the Owls after taking over in goal during the first half. Robinson recorded 12 saves in 69:27 of action, including 11 stops in the second half. Liv Winiecki started in goal and made one save before Robinson entered in the 21st minute.
Greensboro finished with a 28-1 advantage in shots and put 19 attempts on goal. Pate accounted for Warren Wilson's lone shot.
