ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Warren Wilson College women's soccer team controlled much of the opening half but could not turn its opportunities into a goal, falling 1-0 to Brevard College on Thursday evening at Hank Steinbrecher Field.
Warren Wilson dropped to 2-2-1 on the season, while Brevard improved to 3-0-2.
The Owls outshot the Tornados 7-2 during the opening 45 minutes and placed six attempts on goal. Patricia Leiva fueled the Warren Wilson attack with six shots, including five on target. Brevard goalkeeper Abby Nunez stopped each attempt to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Leiva tested Nunez four times during an 11-minute stretch midway through the first half. Carolina Alcala-Ruiz added another shot on goal in the 37th minute, but Nunez made her sixth save of the period.
Brevard broke the scoreless tie shortly after halftime. Brennan Howell connected with Kate Floyd, who scored the match's only goal in the 49th minute. The goal ended a stretch of 270 minutes where the Owls had not allowed a goal.
The Tornados increased their pressure following the goal, producing 13 second-half shots. Warren Wilson goalkeeper Nassi Robinson kept the Owls within striking distance by making seven saves in the final 45 minutes. Robinson finished with eight saves.
