GREENSBORO, N.C. — Eric Villeda scored late in the first half, and goalkeeper Connor Makiaulan-Barish made two saves as Warren Wilson College battled unbeaten Greensboro College to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night at Pride Field.
The result moved Warren Wilson to 0-3-1, while Greensboro finished the night at 4-0-1.
The Owls created several chances during a competitive opening half. Steve Moodie forced Greensboro goalkeeper Alvaro Arroyo into a save in the 23rd minute, while Villeda and Facundo Escalante each sent attempts wide.
Warren Wilson broke through with 43 seconds remaining before halftime. Jaime Millan set up Villeda, who scored his first goal of the season to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
Greensboro increased its pressure during the second half, recording nine shots after halftime. The Pride tied the match in the 78th minute when Jade Diane converted a penalty kick.
Makiaulan-Barish kept the match even with a save on another attempt by Diane less than three minutes later.
The Owls pushed for the go-ahead goal during the closing minutes. Villeda and Millan had consecutive shots blocked in the 86th minute before Millan sent Warren Wilson's final opportunity wide right in the 88th.
