Danasia Dumas, formerly known as 'Piggy', attended Warren Wilson College from 2015 to 2019, where she worked for the Mailroom Crew. During her time at WWC, she was also a member of the Women's Basketball Team, becoming a 4-time First-Team All-American! She played for Coach Robin Martin and scored over 2,000 points in her career, making her the program's all-time leading scorer!
After earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Warren Wilson in 2019, she went on to complete her Master's in School Counseling at North Carolina Central University in 2022. Currently, she serves as a School Counselor and Head Girls' Basketball Coach at Montgomery Central High School, in her hometown. Last season, she was named Mid-Piedmont 3A Coach of the Year!
In her free time, she loves traveling out of state and spending quality time with her 4-year-old daughter, Kabria Christian, and her boyfriend Deon Christian. Last July, she visited Phoenix, Arizona, for the WNBA All-Star Weekend, where she also had the chance to reconnect with two of her fellow Warren Wilson alumni, Satori and Chris Dillard.
One of her unforgettable memories at WWC was the road trips to away games. "Coach Robin Martin would drive us in a little WWC bus, and we had just one CD that played on repeat. Tayzha Allen (another alum) would sing Sorry 2004 by Ruben Studdard the whole trip, trying to keep Coach awake while driving." Her other core memory is from her away game against Piedmont International University. Before the game, Coach Robin Martin told Danasia she needed her to score 40 points, and to no surprise, she ended up scoring 41, and the Lady Owls got the win.
Danasia's advice to current Owls is to keep pushing forward and embrace the journey. "Balancing work hours and sports may be challenging, but it will all pay off in the future. Warren Wilson is shaping you into a mature, well-prepared individual, ready for the demands of long work hours and the responsibilities of adulthood!"
