Historic Debut: Warren Wilson Men’s Rugby Takes the Field for the First Time

EMORY, V.A. – The excitement in the air was palpable as the Warren Wilson men's rugby club team prepared for their first-ever match on February 23, marking a significant milestone in their journey. In a thrilling debut, Will Lewis, Sean Coyle, Lorenzo Di Bona, Randy Bowman, Ian Trela, and Jed Walters took the field for their first ever men's rugby match in Warren Wilson History. This momentous occasion not only showcased the hard work and dedication of the Owls but also highlighted the spirit of community and camaraderie that rugby embodies. 

The Owls faced off in an exhilarating showdown, battling through three intense 7's matches against Emory and Henry, leaving everything on the field with heart-pounding plays and fierce competition! We want to celebrate the incredible performances of Will Lewis, whose knowledge, leadership, and evasive running truly shone, along with Sean Coyle and Lorenzo Di Bona, who dazzled everyone with their powerful tackles and spectacular breakaway runs!

The match ended with a sense of achievement and pride, as the Owls not only competed but also laid the foundation for future success. This first match was just the beginning, and it marked the start of a promising adventure for the Owls and their supporters alike.

Get ready to cheer because the Warren Wilson men's rugby team is set to hit the field this Sunday, March 16, at Hank Steinbrecher Sports Complex. The Owls will face off against UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Emory and Henry in Warren Wilson's Hell or High Water 7's Tournament and you won't want to miss the action!
