ATHENS, TN — The Warren Wilson women's lacrosse team came out swinging on Saturday afternoon, scoring four first-quarter goals behind a fiery offensive burst from Sydney Weber. But despite the strong start, the Owls couldn't keep pace with Tennessee Wesleyan, ultimately falling 22–5 at the TWU Athletic Complex.
Weber was electric in the opening frame, notching a hat trick in less than three minutes. She added a fourth goal in the third quarter to finish with four on the day, including two on free-position shots. First-year midfielder Sophia Spangler also found the back of the net and contributed an assist, while Callie Aerni added a helper of her own.
The Owls trailed just 4–3 after the first quarter, but Tennessee Wesleyan responded with a dominant second period, rattling off seven unanswered goals to take control of the game. Warren Wilson struggled to maintain possession under defensive pressure, committing 33 turnovers to TWU's 19 and converting just 29% of their clear attempts.
In goal, Apollo Grieves stood tall against an onslaught of shots. The senior keeper made 10 saves on 25 shots on goal, showing grit and composure under pressure throughout all 60 minutes.
Defender Lulu Fish earned game ball honors for her consistent hustle and presence in the backfield, collecting ground balls and causing key turnovers against a fast-paced TWU offense.
Despite the lopsided final score, the Owls showed flashes of brilliance—particularly in the first quarter—and will look to build on those moments as they prepare for their next matchup.
