Owls Clash with Panthers in Hard-Fought Contest

SWANANNOA, NC - On February 26, 2025, the Warren Wilson College Owls faced the Hanover College Panthers at the Hank Steinbrecher Sports Complex in Swannanoa, North Carolina. Despite a determined effort, the Owls were defeated 22-6.

The Panthers established an early lead, scoring six goals in the first quarter. The Owls responded with a goal from senior midfielder Jude Searles, ending the quarter at 6-1. Searles continued to lead the offense, finishing the game with a hat trick. Red-shirt freshman attack man Ethan Damm, freshman midfielder Everett Grube, and senior midfielder Timmy Carcel each added a goal, contributing to the Owls' total.

In goal, sophomore keeper Anthony Varela faced relentless pressure from Hanover's offense. Despite the challenging circumstances, Varela made several commendable saves (22), showcasing resilience and determination.

Freshman midfielder Jayshawn Bruce, known for his offensive prowess, faced tight defense from the Panthers, limiting his usual impact on the scoreboard. However, his on-field leadership and play making abilities created opportunities for his teammates throughout the game.

The Owls demonstrated moments of cohesive play and individual skill, but Hanover's balanced attack, led by Owen Parker and Colin O'Brien with six goals each, proved formidable. As the Owls look ahead, they aim to build on their experiences and continue developing as a team.
