Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Owls Compete in Back-to-Back Matchups at the Empowerment Classic

ROANOKE, VA — Warren Wilson women's basketball spent the weekend at Hollins University competing in the Empowerment Classic, taking on host Hollins on Friday night before returning less than 24 hours later for a strong rebound performance against Agnes Scott. The Owls showed resilience, endurance, and noticeable second-day improvement throughout the two-game showcase.

Day One — Hollins 87, Warren Wilson 34

The Owls opened the tournament Friday evening against a surging Hollins team that entered with momentum and depth. Warren Wilson struggled to find its offensive rhythm early, facing a 21–2 deficit after the opening quarter as Hollins' length and interior defense made scoring difficult. Despite the slow start, the Owls put together their strongest stretch in the third quarter, scoring 19 points while shooting 40% from the field.

Moosie Lewis led the Owls with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and a steal, including two made threes. Ori Galloway added 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Ellie Martin contributed 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals in 30 minutes. Briah Clarke secured 6 rebounds off the bench, and both Twig Barnes and Kiera Littlejohn provided interior defensive support.

Day Two — Agnes Scott 75, Warren Wilson 68

Warren Wilson responded in a major way on Saturday, delivering one of its most competitive showings of the season. After trailing by 28 at halftime, the Owls exploded for a 31-point third quarter, outscoring Agnes Scott 31–16 and cutting the deficit into single digits. Warren Wilson's defensive pressure and transition scoring completely shifted the momentum, energizing the tournament crowd inside Main Gymnasium.

Briah Clarke delivered a breakout performance with 16 points on 7–12 shooting, along with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals off the bench. Ori Galloway added 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals, and 4 assists, fueling the huge third-quarter push. Moosie Lewis scored 13 points with 3 assists and 2 steals, knocking down two key threes during the comeback stretch. Marielle McNeal chipped in 8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Jordan McGhee, Nesha Oliver, and Brea Batts contributed in transition and on the glass.

The Owls produced 26 fast-break points and 37 bench points in the game, showcasing depth, energy, and significant improvement from Friday to Saturday.

Tournament Takeaways

Across both games, Warren Wilson displayed resilience, improved ball movement, and strong defensive activity. Saturday's performance highlighted the team's ability to respond quickly, generate turnovers, and score in transition. The Empowerment Classic offered valuable early-season experience and momentum as the Owls continue their non-conference schedule.
