Box Score MARYVILLE, TN - The Warren Wilson Owls women's basketball team put up a spirited effort but fell short against Maryville College, losing 91-51 at the Cooper Athletic Center in Maryville, TN.
The Owls (0-13) started strong in the first quarter, scoring 20 points and staying within striking distance of the Scots, who led 23-20 after the opening period. However, Maryville's offense found its rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Warren Wilson 26-9 to take a commanding halftime lead.
Ellie Martin led the Owls with 11 points, including three three-pointers, while adding 2 rebounds and a steal. Moosie Lewis contributed 10 points, 4 rebounds, and a team-high 6 assists, while Hailey Ripley chipped in 8 points with two three-pointers of her own. Weronika Swojak made her presence felt in the paint, pulling down a team-high 7 rebounds and adding 8 points.
Despite a solid effort on the boards, with Warren Wilson grabbing 28 rebounds, the Owls struggled with turnovers, committing 20 throughout the game. Maryville capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 23 points off turnovers and dominating inside with 58 points in the paint.
"Our team played with a lot of heart, especially in the first quarter," said head coach Robin Martin. "We saw some great individual performances, and we're focusing on continuing to improve our execution as we move forward."
