LAURINBURG, NC - The Warren Wilson Men's volleyball team traveled to St Andrews University for a Tri-Match between Kentucky State University and St Andrews University on Saturday and ended the day with 0-2 losing a tough battle to Kentucky State 2-3 and going 0-3 against St Andrews.Â
The match kicked off with Kentucky State setting the tone early, clinching the first set with a score of 25-17. However, Warren Wilson quickly rallied back, displaying resilience and teamwork to claim the second set with a narrow margin of 25-22. Determined to maintain their momentum, Warren Wilson continued to dominate in the third set, securing a 25-20 victory and putting the pressure on Kentucky State.
Refusing to back down, Kentucky State delivered a strong performance in the fourth set, matching Warren Wilson point for point. With exceptional teamwork, Kentucky State managed to edge ahead, clinching the set with a score of 25-20 and forcing a decisive fifth set. The final set was point for point. In the end, Kentucky State claimed the set with a narrow margin of 15-13 with a final set score of 3-2. Leading scorer for the owls was Ian Nicholson with 20 kills throughout the match with RJÂ Daly running the offense ending with 33 assists and Ricky Castillo having 17 digs.
St Andrews:
The Owls took on the Knights after a hard fought loss to Kentucky state. St. Andrews started off strong with getting ahead fast with multiple big scoring runs. The knights won the first two sets 13-25, 13-25. Going into the third set of the match the Owls push hard and go point for point with the knights at 12-13. The knights respond back with two big scoring runs to put it at 13-24. The Owls try their best to fight back and go on 5 point run but come short losing the third set 18-25. Leading kills for the Owls, Ian Nicholson with 6, RJ daly with 13 assists. RJ and Ricky Castillo racked 5 digs each and Will Jack with 2 aces.Â
