Owls Fall Short Despite Great Team Play

Box Score GREENVILLE, NC - Marcus Andrews long range shooting kept the Owls afloat amidst a slow start to Monday night's game against the Bob Jones University Bruins. Andrews' four early threes totaled 12 of the Owls first 13 points. Andrews' hot start allowed the other Owls to settle in and fight for the rest of the half to trim the Bruin lead.

Yoshi Kendrick and Antonio Banuelos combined for 15 first half points to help Andrews on the scoreboard. Banuelos also added a couple highlight plays, first diving into his team's bench to secure a steal and later crossing a defender en route to a knifing reverse layup.

Despite shooting struggles throughout the half, the Owls cut the Bruins lead to 6 going into the break.

In the second half, the Owls offense applied more pressure to the paint, shooting 10/15 from 2PT range for the half. Aaron Cuthbertson led the charge to the paint with three paint buckets and three more trips to the free-throw line en route to 11 points in the half. The Owls paint assault was capped with a Banuelos drive and dish to Kendrick. On the catch, Kendrick rose up and threw down a two-hand slam on a rotating help defender.

Unfortunately the Owls went cold from deep, only shooting 4/18 from 3PT range in the second half, and were unable to complete their comeback. Even with the shooting woes, the Owls did show flashes of great potential on both sides of the ball as they fought gallantly with the 16-4 Bruins.

No rest for the Owls as they are back in action tomorrow, the second game of a four game week to conclude the regular season. There's still great promise for this group of Owls as they eye the start of the Coast 2 Coast Tournament February 22.
