Transition Defensive Woes Ground Owls

TIGERVILLE, SC - The Warren Wilson Owls flew out to another great start Tuesday night against NCAA Division 2 opponent North Greenville University. Marcus Andrews' second rainbow three gave the Owls a 10-4 lead four minutes into the ball game.

Warren Wilson and North Greenville battled back and forth for the first 10 minutes of the game, leaving the score knotted at 19. Two minutes later, the 19 all tie ballooned into a 29-19 lead for North Greenville.

After the 10-0 run, the Owls were never able to get the deficit back to single digits. Lackluster transition defense for the Owls allowed North Greenville to find open shots and gain comfort and confidence over the course of the evening. North Greenville shot an incredible 68% from the field in each half, with identical shots made and shots attempted in each half (22/32).

Despite the rough night on the road, a couple Owls had individual standout nights. Marcus Andrews re-entered the starting lineup and led the Owls in scoring throughout the game with a career highs in points (19) and made threes (5). Freshman Aaron Cuthbertson added the first double digit performance of his young career with 10 points on an array of strong paint finishes.

The Owls need to have a short memory as they're in action three more times this week--Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Thursday's game is an Exhibition on the road at Elon.

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Marcus Andrews led the team with 19 points, scoring 5 three-pointers in the game.
  • Owls continue their streak, going 100% from the free throw line.
