Box Score Deforest, GA. – Piedmont University rode a strong end to the first half en-route to a 4-0 victory over the Owls Wednesday night. The Lions opened the scoring in the 23rd minute as Cameron Earls was able to tuck home from a scramble in the Owls box following a long throw-in. Set pieces continue to be an issue for the Owls as the Lions scored via a header from a corner kick in the 42nd minute and the scored 99 seconds later, as Earls scored his 2nd on the night on a quick restart from a handball deep in the Owls defensive half.
The Lions capped the scoring in the 68th minute through an own goal. The Owls best chance came in the 8th minute as Aedan Lambert created a wonderful opportunity in a nice give and go with Solomon Love after a galloping run down the left flank. Lambert was unable to finish the move as his effort from the top of the box skimmed just over the cross bar.
"We had some nice moments today. That being said, set pieces are a huge part of college soccer and tonight we let ourselves down in this area," said WWC Head Coach Mathes Mennell, "I thought we were much better in the second half but our inability to be sharp in restarts in the first half was the deciding factor."
