Box Score BEREA, KY-The Warren Wilson College men's soccer team lost to Berea College on Friday, 1-0. The Mountaineers took advantage of a rebound from a free kick in the 41st minute as Max Ber, Jr. provided the tally that ultimately decided the outcome of the game.
In a fairly even game, the outcome was ultimately decided from a set piece. Despite enjoying some nice spells of possession, the Owls were outshot by Berea 20-8 and only drew two corner kicks during the 90 minutes of play.
"This was, in a lot of ways, our most complete performance of the season to date," WWC head coach Mathes Mennell said. "However, we would like to see our total shot number be around 13 to 15, with 7 or so of those on frame. With that being said, I think we absolutely improved and now we have to take the next step in our process and ensure we're putting our chances on frame and making the other team have to defend us on a consistent basis."
Warren Wilson had their best chance to tie the game in the 72nd minute. Paddington Mbumbgwa had a fantastic look from 13 yards after being played in, but his shot narrowly missed wide.
Mbumbgwa, Benjamin Schmid, and Gabriel McGee each had 2 shots for the Owls.
Schmid, Nick Budd, Gus Lehrman, Avery Matthews, and Colter Conway all played 90 minutes for the Owls.
The Owls are back in action on Tuesday, September 21st as they travel to face Maryville College.
