Box Score Pineville, NC - The Warren Wilson College women's soccer team took the field Sunday for their first USCAA Top 10 matchup. In the EMAC's first ever women's soccer game, the Wildcats emerged victorious over the Owls in a thrilling 1-0 score line.
Despite having an exhausting overtime match the night before, the Owls looked full of energy to take on the #7 Wildcats who applied pressure to the #6 Owls right from the start of the game. Even though the Wildcats had the more dangerous chances, the Owls had their own to get on the scoreboard. It wasn't until the 85th minute of the match, when the Wildcats would take the lead. Off a free kick, the Wildcats put a dangerous ball into the box that took a bounce over the Owls goalkeeper.
The Wildcats outshot the Owls, 7-3, and shots on goal, 4-2. Lusardi added 3 saves on the day.
"Johnson & Wales is a great team, one that was a top 10 team and made a great run in the National Tournament last season so we felt prepared for an intense match up. We had chances to take the lead and that might have changed things for us. We have to be better in our attacking third and find ways to take advantage of our chances. We look forward to our rematch when Johnson & Wales comes to us in a few weeks," said head coach Lydia Vandenbergh
The Owls return to the field on October 4 as they travel to Berea College at 5:00 pm.
