Box Score Swannanoa, N.C. – The Warren Wilson College women's soccer team earned a decisive win against the Christendom Crusaders by a score of 8-2. With the win, the Owls improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Owls opened the scoring in the 5th minute of the match when freshman Olivia Lawrence pounced on a short goal kick. She quickly found junior Allyson Nestler who slotted it home. The Crusaders responded right away and in less than 30 seconds leveled the game 1-1 when they dispossessed the Owls in their defensive third. Martha Blank found the back of the net just over transer goalkeeper Susie Lusardi. The Owls would continue to attack in numbers and in the 9th minute freshman Chloe Riess put the Owls in the lead. This would be goal number three for Riess on the season. The Owls would add three more goals in the first half in a span of six minutes. Freshman Malory Monroe scored her first collegiate goal and senior Ashleigh Richter add her first goal of the season. Senior defender Maddie Harris assisted both goals. Senior Jocelyn Hartung would add the last goal of the half right before the lightening delay.
The second half of play started out with Crusader, Annie McGraw scoring first making the game 5-2. The Owls would respond straight from the kick-off and remain on top when sophomore Sierra Bell played a fantastic through ball to Nestler who out ran the defender and put the ball in the back of the net. Hartung would add her second of the match in the 88th minute. Lastly, Nestler would earn her first collegiate hat trick, scoring her third goal of the match in the 90th minute when Riess drove end line and served a great ball into the box. Nestler, calm and composed finished the shot.
The Owls outshot the Crusaders 25-8 and Lusardi tallied 4 saves.
The Owls hit the road this coming weekend as they travel to Ohio to take on University of Cincinnati Clermont on Saturday, Septemeber 8th and Mount Saint Josephs on the 9th.
