Men's Basketball Falls In Overtime

Box Score

Swannanoa, N.C. - The Warren Wilson Owls returned home after playing 6 consecutive road contests to host EMAC foe The Apprentice School.

The Builders built a commanding lead, leading by as much as 17 points. The Owls refused to be denied, cutting their lead to 1 before halftime.

The second half was back and forth, and with under 7 minutes remaining in the ball game, the Owls would take a 5 point lead. Two consecutive turnovers by the Owls that were converted by the Builders tied the game up. The game would remain back and forth and would require overtime to produce a winner.

Overtime would go back and forth until the final minute, and the Builders would continue to capitalize on the Owls' rebounding woes, and eventually win the game 109-107.

The Owls saw 4 players in double figures, led by junior guard Jordan Gant, who finished with 31 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Fellow junior Justin Storr finished with 14 points and 9 assists. Sophomore guard Brent Davis finished with 24 points and 5 rebounds. Junior forward Jaquann Lockhart finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

"We aren't far away. We moved the ball better, we scored the ball better, and we guarded better overall. We fall asleep when the shot goes up and give up offensive rebounds and teams are converting at a high rate when we give those up. Thankfully for us, this stretch of games is over and we will have an opportunity to get a little rest and follow that up with practice. With a group this young and new, we need to practice and we need to practice often. Our record doesn't indicate our team, and as time goes on we will continue to work to make sure that our record does indicate who we really are," stated head coach Anthony Barringer.

The Owls are back in action on Friday evening, as they host USCAA opponent Regent University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
