Box Score Berea, Ky - The Warren Wilson College Women's Soccer team headed to Kentucky Thursday afternoon to face the Berea Mountaineers. The Owls fell 1-0 within the last 2 minutes of the game.
The Owls came out strong in the attack getting off a shot on goal from outside the 18 yard box by freshman Darrah Scott that was snagged by Berea's goalkeeper Jade Fulkerson. The rest of the first half was back and forth with the Mountaineers being more successful in the attack, getting off 11 shots with only 4 on frame, all saved by sophomore goalkeeper Susie Lusardi. The Owls did not see the goal again until just before halftime when sophomore captain Sierra Bell took a shot that was saved by Vanover. The score was tied 0-0 at the end of the first half.
The second half of the game showed even less successful for the Owl's offense, adding more emphasis on their defensive game. The defense and Lusardi held off the Mountaineers until the 88th minute of the game when a penalty kick was given to the Mountaineers, which led to a 1-0 scoreline at the end of the game.
The Owls stand 3-3 for the season and will face Hiwassee at home on Saturday, October 6 at 1pm.
