Berea, K.Y. - The Warren Wilson women's soccer team earned a big win today against USCAA opponent, Berea College on the road. The Owls dominated most of the play until Berea got on the scoreboard with less than six minutes left in the match. With momentum Berea pressed but the Owls came out with the win. The Owls are now 5-2-1.
With sunny skies and beautiful weather, the Owls came out ready to play. The Owls got on the scoreboard first at 39:08 when freshman Maddie Harris found freshman India Little-Dula. Little-Dula composed herself on the ball and slotted it home past the Mountaineers' goalkeeper. For Little-Dula that was her seventh goal on the season. The Owls took the 1-0 lead into half-time.
The second half the Owls made it 2-0 when freshman Courtney Schwein was taken down in the box. Schwein stepped up to take the penalty kick and converted the game winner. The Mountaineers did not give up and fought all the way until the final whistle.
Warren Wilson and Berea both took 10 shots each during the game. Sophomore Melina Lozano made 1 save.
"Melina Lozano stepped up and was great for us today in goal. I thought we had moments of great possession and build-up play. You could see the smiles on their faces, they were enjoying themselves out there and that is important to us as coaches," said head coach Lydia Vandenbergh.
The women's soccer team will be back in action next Thursday, October 15th as they travel to Charlotte to face Johnson & Wales University at 7pm.
