The Spirits controlled the attack in a 2-1 victory over the Owls.
Salem scored quickly in the match on a tremendous effort from Morgan Canepa. Canepa scored on a free kick near center circle in the 12th minute to make it 1-0 in favor of the Spirits.
It looked like it might be a long afternoon but the Owls defense was able to hold back the Salem attack in the first half. Then in the 41st minute Bianca Canizio scored her fourth goal of the season on a ball from Natalia Castro to level the game at 1-1.
The Spirits again had more of the attack in the second half but keeper Clare Williams made save after save to keep the game level. Williams had to leave after colliding with a Salem player in the box, however, and Salem's Taylor Norman was able to beat the newly inserted Kendra Orians in the 67th minute to give the Spirits a 2-1 lead.
Salem added an insurance goal from Tarryn Bundy in the 88th minute and the game finished at 3-1.
The Owls were outshot 24-5 in the game. Before leaving Clare Williams made a whopping 16 saves.
The Owls fall to 2-3 on the season. They will be back on the road Thursday to take on Pikeville.
