Asheville, NC - The Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University defeated the Fighting Owls on Tuesday night with a final score of 50-63.
This brings the WWC Men's Basketball team to an overall record of 3-7.
The first half was a very low scoring performance from both teams as they each settled into their respective zone defenses. Neither team shot the ball very well but Oglethorpe shot it better leading at half 28-20.
The second half was all Petrels. The press began to wear on the Owls and they continued to miss scoring opportunities. Oglethorpe shot the ball much better in the second half at 50% with most of their baskets coming off of second chance points.
"It is hard to get stops when a team continues to get second chance points in the same possession, it takes the energy right out of you," says Head Coach William Monts. "We must improve on the defensive end especially when our shots aren't falling."
Rashad Ali and Timmy Johnson led the Owls in scoring at 10 a piece, Ali also adding 8 rebounds. Ty Johnson posted 9 points, and had 5 assists as Justin Gonyea added 8 points, a steal, an assist, and 2 rebounds.
Tyler Triplet and Thomas Hay both contributed 6 points.
The Owls shot just 25% from the field and still managed to only lose by 13 with the final score 63-50.
"Our shots weren't falling, but we will continue to get better everyday," says Monts.
The Fighting Owls travel to Powell, TN where they will face Crown College on Saturday, November 23rd at 4:00pm.
