ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Warren Wilson College women's soccer team came up scoreless today in a rainy match against Piedmont College. The Owls were shut out at home with a 4-0 loss.
From the kickoff, both teams had quality goal scoring opportunities but it was Piedmont that was finally able to break through scoring off of a header by Dilyn MacLean. MacLean's initial shot was saved the Owl's goalkeeper, Kendra Orians, but she was able to head home the rebound for the 1-0 lead which would hold through the first half.
The rain began to pour in the second half adding some difficulties for both teams. In the game's 55th minute, Piedmont's Shayna Rogers made the score 2-0 on a shot score from 20 yards out. The Owl's best chance to get back in the game came at the 76th minute when Freshman Biance Canizio found herself on a breakaway the Lady Lion's goalkeeper. Her shot beat the goalkeeper but was cleared off the line by a Piedmont defender.
Piedmont would add on a pair of insurance goals late in the game by Emily Corson (84th minute) and Nikki Means (89th minute).
The Owl's were out-shot on the day 38-8. Goalkeeper Kendra Orians tallied 14 saves while Piedmont's keepers Michaela Garnder and Alex Smith combined for 6 saves.
