Growing up at pools, Laura started teaching swim lessons before entering high school and coached her first summer league team even before she left home to attend Warren Wilson College! She swam in college and was an assistant coach for the local club team. After graduating in 1998, Laura went on to become an autism specialist with a globally recognized program based in North Carolina, training teachers and pre-service workers, specializing in differential diagnosis, allocating state medicaid funding, working closely with parents, and launching community based programs for adolescents and adults, before going on to doctoral program. She never lost her connection to the swimming world, though, participating in USA Master’s Swimming along the way. Laura beieves that swimming is a lifelong endeavor and that everyone benefits from being in the water. She welcomes all ability levels on her team, and encourages everyone who is curious to come swim with the team. After running the Natatorium and coaching the WWC Swim Team once before from 2005-2007, she is very glad to be back home!
