Central, S.C. - The cross country teams headed down to Central SC to run their second meet of the season on a hot muggy southern evening.
The women ran at 6pm and worked hard on the looping 5K course with a mix of woods, hills and fields to finish 4th out of 6 teams. Sophie Willihnganz led them in running 23:53 for 25th place in the hot conditions. The next two Owls were right behind Sophie with Ellie Goldstein in at 24:04 and Megan Stuber hot on her heels in 24:07. Rounding out the five scoring women for the team were Kiersten Keith-Pederson and Emma Strong finishing in 25:46 and 26:32 respectively. EllaJane Nelson (29:06), Emme Mcmanus (29:50) and Ellei Burmeister (30:48) were also in fairly close together. While Sabina Jones (35:23) and Sasha Pitkofsky complete their first ever 5K runs in 35:23 and 39:12 respectively.
Because of injuries and a family wedding the men did not field a full team for the 4 mile, however, Julian Rohn-Capellaro did not let that stop him from pushing hard for 10th place overall with a time of 23:28. Freshman Sam Colston was next in for the Owls running the 4 mile course in 26:04, while Benj Welland and Malcolm Mitchell-Bennett hung tough in the hot conditions to finish in 36:28 and 39:39 respectively.
Both the teams are training hard and looking forward to running in the UNCA Cross Country Invitational on Friday September 21. Come to UNC-Asheville and support your Owls!
