Julie is originally from Michigan where she graduated from Western Michigan University earning a bachelor’s degree studying earth science and textiles. She spent the next 4 years working in New York City before moving to Asheville in 2002 to work for the North Carolina Outward Bound School. In 2008, during her work at NCOBS Julie had the opportunity to work with the Warren Wilson Service Learning Semester course. Julie is currently a 7th and 8th grade science teacher at Francine Delany New School for Children.
Julie is very involved in running, cycling, and triathlon community in Asheville. She serves as the President of the Asheville Triathlon Club and is a member of the Asheville Women’s Cycling Race Team. Julie is a passionate endurance athlete who spends much of the year training for long distance triathlon and running races. Some of her favorite races include the Black Mountain Marathon, Beach 2 Battleship iron distance triathlon, and the Blue Ridge Relay. She is currently training for her second Ironman Triathlon which will take place in October.
