Cross Country Teams Run in Friendly against Montreat and Bob Jones

Owen Park, NC – Friday, August 30, 2019

The Fighting Owl's men's and women's cross country teams started their season off with a friendly scrimmage against Montreat and Bob Jones on a beautiful evening at nearby Owen Park.

The women's team started with a 2-mile race to stretch the legs and were led by junior Kiersten Keith-Pederson in a time of 14:19, with freshman Isabella Sorniolo coming in shortly after at 14:29. Sophomore Miriam Kadens was next in for the Owls, running 15:01 in her first race for the team, followed by senior Ellie Goldstein.  Sophomore Emme Mcmanus was the next Owl in at 15:42 and was followed by freshmen Lydia Sterling an Izzy Donahue in 16:09 and 16:36 respectively.

The men ran a 5K and were led home by junior Julian Rohn-Cappellaro who ran 17:37 in his first race of the season and were followed closely by transfer Eric Vanderford running 17:42.in his first race for the Owls.  Next in was sophomore Sam Colston at 18:59, then new freshmen Seth Walker and Jonah Felde ran 20:30 and 20:50 respectively.  Transfer Bassam Shawamreh ran his first race ever in a time of 25:22 and Malcolm Mitchell-Bennett finished in 28:29.

The runners were happy to get their first meet of the season behind them and will be training hard in preparation for the Zaxby's Invitational at Tusculum next Friday, September 6th.
